Start Today's Journey with Prayer
“Father, as we begin this journey together, I acknowledge just how much I need You. Help me to remember that Your Holy Spirit is my guide along this journey. Give me a humble heart that is quick to respond to everything You communicate to me. Please speak to me from Your Word.”
Read God's Word

James 4:6-10
"He gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you."
Revelation 3:14-21
"Revival never comes to proud hearts, or to those who refuse God’s help. Admitting our need for Him and our desperate hopelessness apart from Him is part of what the Bible calls having a broken spirit (Psalm 51:17). This attitude of brokenness before the Lord is absolutely a prerequisite for His work to begin. You must forsake self-sufficiency and renew your absolute surrender to and reliance upon God."
Respond to What God Has Said
WARNING: This section of the daily journey is not easy. Nor is it something you want to rush through. It will require you to be honest with yourself and God. There will most likely be hard action steps you need to take if you’re serious about following Jesus. The Holy Spirit will be your guide along this path.
The best way to tackle this part of the journey each day is to spend a few quiet moments focusing on God’s presence with you. Ask Him to help you see your heart the way He does. He’ll get you through this!
Evidences of pride I have seen in my life within the past few months:
(Identify which of the following questions is true of you. Each exercise along this journey is 100% between you and God.)
-
I neglect regular prayer, assuming I can get along fine without it.
-
I tend to value my own opinions more than the input of others.
-
I find it difficult or uncomfortable to admit my spiritual needs to others.
-
I can’t remember the last time I wept over my sins.
-
I seek out recognition and gratitude for things I’m doing “for God.”
-
I intentionally run myself down before others so that I can appear humble or holy.
-
I frequently complain about what others should be doing differently.
-
I don’t have a deep sense of spiritual poverty—I think I am doing fine.
-
I rarely serve people; most of the time I feel I should be served.
-
I have not fully surrendered every area of my life to Christ’s lordship.
I am willing to embrace the humility required for revival by:
Submitting to Christ as the Lord, Commander, and Boss of my lifestyle.
